MY INTERVIEW IN UNIVERSITY SAINS MALAYSIA with my stupid self
Today's 12-05-2014.
One of the disastrous day of the year! The interviewer of the interview I attended today remind me of the existence of this blog.
So, in honour of her, I'll recount my stupidity during the interview!
I attended an interview in University Sains Malaysia ( USM ) for my first choice course--- Mass Communication.
I felt so lucky and honour to have the chance to attend the interview instead of being eliminate from the first round. USM was ranked first in Malaysia!
So, I was thrilled about it and apply leave with my current company, prepared to resign if they didn't approve my application. But they approved anyway, so I leave straight from my working place in Singapore back to my hometown for the certificate thing and went straight from my hometown to USM. All by myself. (Please praise me that I'm so brave, lol).
The next thing I know, it's already morning and it's time for interview. I got to the wrong place and already felt stupid before the interview even begin.... But lucky me, meet a professor I think that point me to the right direction. People, if you ever attend any interview and you reach a place that has no people, it's obvious you got the wrong place. Please look for a place with a big banner and tons of people! Anyway, I reached the right place just in time to register, not enough time to make new friends though..
So, let's recount my stupidity with me.
First off, I just sent myself straight to hell with the handwriting I wrote in the writing test. The writing test that I'm not aware of.
Second, I wrote absolute nonsense for the paper. I mean it make sense to me but people who read it might not think so.... But guys, relax, the test is pretty easy and relaxing, it's just me that's stupid enough to screw it up..
For the oral interview, I try to reply with confidence and perfect language but I ended up mixed them together.
And hell! They ask about isu semasa! I didn't even read newspaper anymore! I tried my best to answer and rummage my mind for anything. Uggggh..
I.....justtttt...couldn'ttttt....
People who are going to the interview soon, I don't care it's a year or years from now, pleaseeeeee fill yourself up with all the current issues!!!! If you already have it in your mind, PERFECT. If you don't, please exercise your rusty mind!
They also asked me about my hobby, people! Please use this chance to relate something you do with the course! Unlike me, who gave the lame answer that I want to smack myself now even it's already hours after the interview! I said I read and read and read. And now I ready to smack myself to unconscious in the airport.
My final advise, guys don't make any smartass comments or give any smartass answer even if you want to impress the interviewers. Relax, be yourself, don't make up any story. Just be confident, honest and...I don't know, be yourself I think... If your usual self is very sullen and diam, then try talk a little bit more. And if, I mean IF you ever happen to plan to make up a story, please DO NOT let people realise it's a lie. Even I will despise you personally if I realised you lie to me, so better don't lie.. Also, please visit official page of USM, read about APEX, current issues of Malaysia or the world.

This course is my first choice and so does USM. I really hope I could get in it!*fingers cross* Pray hard.
POSITIVE MINDSET ATTRACTS POSITIVE OUTCOMES!!
I'm actually not willing to end this post! I still have like 3 hours to kill before my flight back to Singapore. And I can't have any free time or I'll start thinking how I should've answer instead of the way I did and start killing my brain cells...

Thanks for the advice senior, me too, next month also got myself an interview with the mass communication course too! May I know did you end up studying in there? Any advice given for me is much appreciated! Thanks.

ReplyDeleteI ended up in University of Malaya, obviously got eliminated by USM but USM did offered me another course. Advice, erm, passion and self learning is important, don't let reality kills your dream.
